How times have changed? Did you know it is in fact a celebration feast of All Hallows’ Day? The time dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs and all the faithful departed. Clearly this does not have a ‘happy ring’ to it or have that commercial appeal!
When I was a lad it was called ‘mischief night’ when mild anti social behavior was condoned, now we have Community Policing and ASBO’s. Those were the times of real austerity, not that we were poor but families didn’t have mountains of confectionary in the house. It’s now become ‘trick or treat’ night. This year along side an abundance of every conceivable confectionary on hand to dissuade the act of willful damage. To address childhood obesity and encourage expressionism I have decided to offer painted pumpkins!
